Overview

Sutton is an outer London borough located in the south of London. It has one of the lowest poverty rates in London (16% compared to 28% in an average London borough). However, it is one of the few boroughs to have seen a slight increase in unemployment rates (0.2 percentage points to 5.2%) between 2014/2017 and 2017/2020. 

Sutton has the highest proportion of pupils achieving GCSE grades 9-4 of all the London boroughs at 80%, compared to 69% in London overall. 

There has been no increase in the number of social and affordable housing in Sutton between 2016/17 and 2018/19.
